Here they are: my picks for 2009's hottest! male calendars.

How did I choose? Simple. The men are sexy (to me), the photographs or illustrations are great, and the calendar is well-designed. In short, I was looking for erotic *art*.

XXX calendars are not included since porn is sometimes sexy, sometimes not -- and you can't really put one on the wall at work unless you, um, work for a porn studio.

Don't blame me if you think that men of color are not adequately represented in my selection. I have included the best available here, but let's put calendar publishers on notice: it sure is white up in here!

I'm withholding my love from the calendars that portray Black, Asian and Latin men as hung|exotic|thugs. And ones that declare that its men are "straight" or "All American". I don't think these are sexy. At all.

XXL Men Calendar 2009

Keepin' it real up in here, let's go to the best calendar I found this year featuring the "Big and Tall Guys".

"Those who enjoy their sexiness in super sized portions are in for a really big treat with XXL Men, a collection of the beefiest and burliest teddy bears we could find!" according to the publisher, BIG Daddy, a part of the 10 Percent/Village Lighthouse family of GLBT brands.

As an XXL guy myself, I happen to know that the cover guy is probably more like a size 4XL, but let's not quibble. Big is big, and fans of big (aka "chubby chasers") will be delighted with this calendar. XXL Men contains full frontal nudity.

City Gym Boys Calendar 2009

City Gym Boys 2009 doesn't post many images online, but as the cover shows, these men are fit and hot!

And for CGB, it's not just about looking great. The calendar is subtitled: One People. One Mission. Shaping Minds and Bodies. Not your ordinary beefcake collection, no.

City Gym Boys is an elite team of natural bodybuilders from the inner city dedicated to mentoring young men and women on the lifelong benefits of fitness and exercise.

City Gym Boys was founded in 1997 by owner Charles La Salle to reach young men and women in the New York City area. 'Our mission is to help eliminate the onset of obesity, particularly among African-Americans and Latino’s in the inner city, by getting teens hooked on working out. If we can get 15 to 23 year olds to make fitness a habit, then we are on our way to reducing diabetes and heart disease', says La Salle.

Gods of Football Calendar 2009

Photographed by Pedro Virgil, Gods of Football 2009 calendar features two-dozen nude Australian professional footballers (rugby players). You might recognize cover model Nick Youngquest from his recent DNA magazine cover story.

This is the mother of all 2009 calendars -- it's about 12 x 17 inches, 26 pages. It's pricey, but worth it if you're looking for an extraordinary calendar. Of the two dozen players in Gods of Football, our favorites are blond "god" Kayne Lawton and the very beefy and handsome David Williams.

The Gods of Football 2009 calendar "raises awareness and funds for the McGrath Foundation breast cancer charity" according to the project website. A companion DVD will be released in March. The player/models are nude, but there is no frontal nudity in the calendar.
